National Junior Angus Show
Heats Up Tulsa
More than 650 Angus youth and their families enjoyed a week in Tulsa, Okla., July 13-18 for the 2015 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS). It was an event filled with fun and friendships, competition and leadership, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Educational contests, including the All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-Off and public speaking competitions, were a central part of the week — in addition to one of the breed’s most competitive cattle shows of the year. You can find results from the showring online at www.njas.info, along with champion photos and videos.
Candid and backdrop images by Pearl’s Pics and Angus Media are available for purchase at photo.angus.org, and you can watch more of the week’s highlights in the Closing Ceremonies video.
For additonal coverage from the event, plan to tune in for a special episode of The Angus Report at 7:30 a.m. CDT Monday, July 27, on RFD-TV. You’ll also see highlights in the pages of the September Angus Journal.
NJAA Recognizes an Illinois ‘Show Mom’
Sherry Adcock of Illinois is often the first in the barns at a cattle show. Throughout her years of service to the Illinois Junior Angus Association (IJAA), junior members are proud to consider her a “show mom” who is always prepared and willing to lend a hand.
A warm personality, coupled with a strong dedication to the Angus breed and its youth, are a few reasons why Adcock was recognized with the Advisor of the Year award during the 2015 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Tulsa, Okla.
“Sherry is one of those extraordinary leaders who will do whatever is necessary to achieve success, no matter the task,” says Gabrielle Lemenager, IJAA president. “She is best known as the organized perfectionist who does a great deal of the behind-the-scenes work that many of our juniors never realize occurs.”

Certified Angus Beef® Brand Tabbed
Best Employer in Ohio for 2015
For 36 years, the Certified Angus Beef® brand, or CAB among producers, has been synonymous with high quality beef. But a recent honor from the Ohio Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) says the brand doesn’t just mean the best beef, it means something else: best employer.
Headquartered in Wooster, Ohio, CAB was tabbed by Best Companies Group in conjunction with the Ohio SHRM as the Buckeye state’s best employer among small/medium companies (15-249 employees).
Bob Bethel, director of the Ohio SHRM state council, says the award recognizes companies that provide benefits far beyond wages and salaries — it targets those that act strategically to make themselves more attractive to existing and potential employees.

Cattle Industry Conference Wraps Up with Policy Priorities
Over 600 cattlemen and women gathered in Denver, Colo., last week to discuss the policy priorities for the cattle industry for the upcoming year. Throughout the meeting, the various policy committees reviewed expiring policies and discussed proposed policy brought forward from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) state affiliates. According to Philip Ellis, NCBA president and Chugwater, Wyo., cattleman, the leadership of the association renewed their dedication to the policy priorities for 2015.
“The Cattle Industry Summer Conference is the time when our producer members are able to gather and tackle the business of the association,” said Ellis. “From continuing and renewing current and expiring policy, to discussing and passing policy to tackle the upcoming and emerging issues, this is our chance to work together to ensure NCBA remains on the forefront representing our membership.”
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans process continues with Congressional oversight. NCBA members remain committed to working with the administration and Congress to ensure the final guidelines reflect the highest quality science and the role of lean beef in a healthy diet.

K-State Risk and Profit Conference Set for Aug. 20-21
Weather on the High Plains has always been fickle, but this year has been extreme — even for Kansas.
Going from a several-year drought to sometimes flooded fields and full ponds in a few short months make for unusual times for agricultural producers. Those circumstances and more will be addressed at Kansas State University’s 2015 Risk and Profit Conference planned for Aug. 20-21.
The conference will be held at the K-State Alumni Center in Manhattan.
Elwynn Taylor, Iowa State University professor of agricultural meteorology, will give the keynote address, “Extreme Weather for Crops: Too Dry, Too Wet, and Even Ideal,” after the kickoff luncheon Aug. 20. His knowledge of the world enlightens and entertains in a clear, concise way.
