The dates for collecting on-test weights and off-test weights for the next scheduled test(s), as well as the date of the test sale, are noted below the contact information. This is a 112-day test. 2016 marks the 47th annual test.

• Bulls were delivered June 26-27, 2017, and were weighed on test July 17-18. Interim weights were to be collected approximately Aug. 15, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10. Final weights were collected Nov. 6-7.

• Bulls must be clean of all known genetic defects to be eligible to sell. The bulls will be scanned by ultrasound in October and will undergo breeding soundness exams in November.

• Cattlemen are invited to a Calhoun Beef Cattle Seminar the evening prior to the sale. The 47th Annual Calhoun Bull Evaluation Sale will be Dec. 1.

Interim weigh dates are scheduled for Dec. 10, 2016 and Jan. 7, 2017.

The test ration is formulated to maintain an average ADG of at least 3.0 lb.

• The Dunlap Bull Test is at Buffalo Trail Farms, Latimer. It is a 112-day test. The sale begins at 6:30 p.m. March 31, 2017, at Dunlap Livestock. Interim weights are scheduled for Dec. 29, 2016.

• The Tama Bull Test is at Buffalo Trail Farms, Latimer. It is a 126-day test. The sale will start immediately following the heifer sale, which starts at 6:30 p.m. May 5, 2017. Interim weights are scheduled for Feb. 8, 2017.

• The Tama Heifer Test is at Buffalo Trail Farms, Latimer. Heifers must be open heifers. It is a 99-day test. The sale will start at 6 p.m. May 5 at Tama Livestock. Interim weights are scheduled for Feb. 14, 2017.

The facility consists of eight pens, which combined can accommodate approximately 100 bulls.

The performance test offered is a standard 112-day performance test with bulls grouped by breed and size, as much as possible, offering an optimum growth environment. Bulls go on test after a 14-day warm-up period. Four tests are conducted each year and begin in June, July, October and December. Bulls are fed a high-quality ration formulated by a qualified nutritionist and adequate for a targeted ADG of 3.5 lb. An individual feed efficiency test is also available.

The test index is calculated by using the weaning ratio with a limit of 110, gain index and yearling index divided by 3. The Jackpot index is 25% weaning ratio, 50% gain and 25% yearling ratio.

The sale will be at the Western Livestock Auction, Great Falls, Mont.
