Delegate nominations due this month

Time is running out to nominate delegates to represent your state at the 2006 American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, set for Nov. 13 in Louisville, Ky. Each Association member may nominate one member. All eligible nominations will be included on a state ballot that will be mailed to members for the final selection of delegates. Nominations must be received in the Association office by June 30. Nomination forms received after that date are not eligible to be placed on the ballots.

Only active members can nominate or be nominated. If your membership is due to expire, please be sure that it is paid before June 30. Nominations of expired memberships cannot be placed on the ballots.

Ballots will be mailed by July 16 and must be received in the Association office no later than Aug. 15.

Cattlemen’s Boot Camp set in Illinois

The Association, in partnership with the Angus Foundation and University of Illinois, is conducting its third Cattlemen’s Boot Camp Aug. 29-30 in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. The event is open to all cattle producers and offers perspectives on all segments of the industry, including production practices, marketing and end product merit.

Registration for Boot Camp is just $75, which includes meals and materials. Space is limited, so register today by contacting the Association. To learn more about Boot Camp, go to www.angus.org or contact Shelia Stannard, event coordinator, at (816) 383-5152 or sstannard@angus.org.

Request registration materials for National Conference

The 2006 National Angus Conference & Tour will take place Sept. 26-28 in Boise, Idaho. Beef industry speakers will headline the event, followed by a tour of various Angus operations and other agricultural entities in Idaho and Oregon.

The theme for the event is “The Great Northwest Gathering,” and the Idaho and Oregon Angus associations will serve as hosts for the tour portion. Both purebred and commercial producers are invited to attend. A preliminary schedule, hotel information and registration are available at www.nationalangusconference.com. Participants can register online at www.angus.org, or request registration materials by contacting Linda Campbell at (816) 383-5143 or lcampbell@angus.org.

National Junior Angus Show approaching fast

Make your plans now to attend the 2006 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS), July 9-15 in Indianapolis, Ind. This event showcases the youth of our breed and all activities of the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA). It is the largest event the Association coordinates during the year.

The Indiana Angus associations — adult, junior and auxiliary — will host the event, “All Roads Lead to the ’06 Show,” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Juniors will exhibit females, bulls, cow-calf pairs and steers. There is a carcass contest with special emphasis on meeting Certified Angus Beef® (CAB®) product specifications.

Angus youth will participate in public speaking, poster design, creative writing, graphic design, photography and state junior association scrapbook contests. Rules for all of the contests are available online at www.njaa.info.

For a complete schedule of events and hotel information, call the Junior Activities Department or go to www.njaa.info.

LEAD Conference planned for Oklahoma

Developing personal leadership skills is one of the most valuable benefits of being an NJAA member. One event that allows members to do just that is the annual Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference, set for Aug. 3-6 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

All juniors ages 14 and older are eligible to participate. This year’s theme is “Wranglin’ Up Your Future.” Juniors will have the opportunity to make new Angus friends, learn about current beef industry issues and tour agricultural sites in Oklahoma.

Registration materials can be found in the entry booklet that was distributed to all active juniors earlier in the year. Interested juniors may also request materials by contacting the Junior Activities Department at (816) 383-5100.

Registration is $175 for juniors and advisors alike until June 15, the early registration deadline. After that date, registration will be $200.
