Angus Foundation News
Nov. 1, 2005 Foundation Accepting YCC Nominations Every year, the Angus Foundation, in coordination with the American Angus Association, sponsors one participant to attend the Young Cattlemens Conference (YCC) a conference and tour developing future leaders in the beef industry. The event focuses on developing leadership skills in young producers and exposing them to many aspects of the cattle industry. The conference covers industry structure, management issues, production research, marketing and more. The 2006 conference will mark the YCC programs 27th year. The tour will begin June 1, 2006, in Denver, Colo., with an overview of the beef cattle industry. Participants will travel to Kansas to visit various cattle operations and continue on to Sioux City, Neb., where they will tour Tyson Fresh Meats. The group will then arrive in Chicago, Ill., where they will visit the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Bruss Co., a meat purveyor. Finally, the YCC tour ends in Washington, D.C., where participants will meet their respective congressmen and senators, and visit various regulatory agencies affecting the agriculture industry. The tour concludes June 8. Angus breeders interested in applying must be between the ages of 25 and 50 and must be a member of the National Cattlemens Beef Association (NCBA). Each participant will arrive in Denver May 31 and will depart from Washington, D.C., June 9. Sponsorship by the Foundation covers flight costs and registration fees. Incidental costs and meals are not included. Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, Jan. 6, 2006. Visit www.angusfoundation.org/ycc.html for more information or to download an application and/or instruction sheet. Contact the Angus Foundation at (816) 383-5100 for further details. Giving at the End of Tax-Year Charitable gifts to the Angus Foundation in support of its education, youth and research programs are genuinely appreciated regardless of the time of year the gift is made. Oftentimes, however, charitable giving decisions are made at year-end once an individual or couple knows their income tax situation for that respective calendar (tax) year. Accordingly, any charitable giving considerations to benefit the Angus Foundation in the waning days of this year will likewise be appreciated. As a reminder, one should pay special attention to timing when it comes to year-end gifts. 501(c)(3) charities such as your Angus Foundation, in accordance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines, will recognize the U.S. Postal Service postmark denoted on the outside of the carrier envelope used by the donor. Hence, in order to qualify for tax savings on this years tax return, your gift must be completed by Dec. 31. For cash gifts, this means your gift must be personally delivered or mailed to the Angus Foundation in an envelope postmarked no later than Dec. 31. Also, if youre planning to make a gift of securities (appreciated stock) or if you just need additional information on year-end charitable gift strategies, please call Angus Foundation Director of Development Milford Jenkins at (816) 383-5163 or (816) 390-4357 well in advance of the Dec. 31 deadline. |
